Safety is About More Than Checking a Box

Electrical work presents some obvious safety challenges. That’s why Danbert prioritizes the wellbeing of our employees and the general public above all else. It’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly. To help ensure accident-free jobsites, we hold all of our team members accountable for safety at every phase of every project.

Providing a safe work environment also requires an investment in top-notch equipment, personnel, and training. We especially focus on high voltage training, bucket use, and American Electric Power (AEP) onboarding and safety mandates. Our people are our most valuable asset, and we want to send them home safely at the end of each work day.

We also believe that safety is a team effort. To reinforce proper safety procedures, all Danbert employees must complete and pass the 10-hour Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) program and participate in three days of external training. Foremen are selected based on their expertise, safety record, and commitment to Danbert’s safety culture. To qualify for the job, they must complete and pass the 30-hour OSHA program.

Danbert also employs a safety officer and a fleet and safety manager to plan, implement, and oversee employee safety.

The safety officer is responsible for:

Conducting daily crew and jobsite inspections
Enforcing all OSHA, American Electric Power (AEP), and Danbert safety standards
Responding to issues or incidents with a complete analysis and the documentation necessary to prepare reports for the fleet and safety manager

The fleet and safety manager is responsible for:

Reviewing Job Safety Analysis (JSA) reports on a daily basis
Coordinating ongoing training for employees
Inspecting the safety equipment

Daily Job Safety Analysis:

Every day our team reviews a Job Safety Analysis, which serves as a reminder of upcoming events and any necessary precautions that need to be implemented.

Weekly Toolbox Talks

On Mondays, the foreman leads a Toolbox Talk, a discussion that addresses a specific safety issue and then engages the workers on the topic. This is a Danbert signature approach that started more than 10 years ago as a creative way to keep safety top of mind for our workers. It has since evolved to include videos and recent news items. .

Today the Toolbox Talks are also a way to review important topics and an opportunity for workers to further explore these topics by exchanging ideas, expressing concerns, or asking questions. We currently have more than 800 Toolbox Talks in our system, ranging from accident prevention to work zone highway hazards, and more..

Annual Company-wide Training:

Our entire company closes for several days at the end of the year to free up time for intense safety training. We contract with external safety companies who share their expertise and the latest information with our employees.

We’re proud of our efforts to make safety a top priority throughout the company. With that in mind, it’s not surprising that the Central Ohio Damage Prevention Council recognized Danbert as a company committed to safety.
